Subject: Matching Gifts to Education - Changes for 2003

We would like to inform you of changes that are being made to the Intel Foundation's Matching Gift to Education program.  These changes will be effective January 1, 2003.

Inclusion of Intel retirees

Intel values and supports the engagement of Intel retirees with the community.  In order to continue to encourage this involvement, the Intel Foundation is extending the benefits the Matching Gifts to Education Program to our retired employees who meet the official retirement guidelines of Intel.  This means that any contribution from a retired Intel employee will now be eligible for a matching gift from the Intel Foundation.

Memorial program

The Memorial Gifts program, which allows Intel employees to donate money to a school in memory of a deceased Intel employee, will be aligned with our existing Matching Gifts to Education program.  The Matching Gifts program will provide a dollar for dollar match for all donations given beginning January 1, 2003

Note:   All forms must be received by March 24, 2003 for a 2002 gift to be processed under the old guidelines.  After that date, all donations will be matched on a 1:1 basis regardless of date of gift.

Thank you for continuing to support this program.

Q&A's

What changes were made with the Matching Gifts to Education program for 2003?
The Intel Foundation Board of Directors unanimously voted to extend the Matching Gifts to Education program to Intel retirees, providing a 1:1 match on all retiree contributions.  The board also unanimously voted to realign the Memorial Gifts program to be consistent with our Matching Gifts program, matching all gifts a 1:1 basis.  Both changes are effective beginning January 1, 2003.

Memorial program changes

What was the memorial program?
The program allowed for Intel employees to give a gift in memory of a deceased Intel employee and the Intel Foundation would match the gift on a 2:1  basis.  Employees may continue to give a donation in the name of a deceased employee but the Intel Foundation will no longer match on 2:1 basis.  All memorial gifts will be matched on a 1:1 basis.

Why was the memorial program eliminated?
In 1993, Intel Foundation offered the Memorial Matching Gift program as a means by which employees could respond to the loss of a colleague through donations to schools in the deceased colleague's memory.  While it is still possible (and encouraged) for employees to make such donations, the Intel Foundation Board of Directors has decided to match those gifts 1:1 as with other employee donations.

If I give a donation in memory of an Intel employee in 2002 but the form is not received at the Intel Foundation office until after January 1, 2003, will it still be matched on a 2:1 basis?
The Intel Foundation will continue to honor forms received for the memorial program until March 24, 2003 for any gifts given prior to January 1, 2003.  After that date, all matches will be done on a 1:1 basis.

What is the limit for blue-badge Intel employees to have matched by the Intel Foundation?
Maximum match is $10,000 per calendar year per employee or per couple (employee and spouse).  If both spouses are employees of Intel, each is eligible to match to a maximum of $10,000 per year The year is defined as December 16, 2002 to December 15, 2003.

Inclusion of Intel Retirees to program

Who qualifies as an Intel retiree to participate in this program?
The Intel Foundation follows Intel's definitions of retirees as any employee who fits one of the following categories:

·       55+15:  Age 55 with at least 15 years of service
·
       65:  Age 65
·
Rule of 75:  The combined total of age plus length of service (in whole years) is equal  to or greater than 75

What is the limit for Intel retirees?

Maximum match is $2,000 per calendar year per employee or per couple (employee and spouse).  If both spouses are retirees of Intel, each is eligible to match to a maximum of $2,000 per year The year is defined as December 16, 2002 to December 15, 2003.

Why is the limit for Intel retirees only $2,000?
The Matching Gifts to Education program is open ended, therefore the potential liability to the Intel Foundation cannot be determined exactly.  In order to ensure that the Intel Foundation is able to meet the fiscal demands of the program while maintaining its funding priorities, the Intel Foundation Board decided to cap the match for retired employee's gifts at $2,000 per person/couple per year.

As an Intel retiree, can I provide my school with a copy of the guidelines and the form?
Because retiree eligibility must be confirmed by Intel, there is a specific form that must be used and can only be found at the Retirement Services web site or picked up at their office.

Communications and processes

How will these changes be communicated to the schools?

A detailed letter communicating the changes will be mailed in early January 2003 to all schools who have received a match from the Intel Foundation since January 1, 2000.

Where can I find and the updated forms?
Updated forms can be found on the Intel Education intranet site at http://education.intel.com/education2/involved/gifts.asp for active Intel employees
