The CSE2 Building Campaign

The Paul G. Allen Center for Computer Science & Engineering, funded through a $72 million public/private partnership, has transformed our capabilities since it opened in 2003. But it is full to overflowing!

UW CSE is revolutionizing the field of computer science, driven by a powerful vision of its expanding role in the modern university and in the modern world. We are poised to become one of a small number of truly preeminent programs in the nation, dramatically expanding our impact on Washington's students, our innovative employers and our economy, and our role in developing solutions to society's greatest challenges.

The Campaign for CSE is critical to unlocking this potential. It will enable us to embark upon an exciting new phase of growth and enhance our leadership in computer science and computer engineering teaching and research. The resources we raise will provide a springboard for new and expanded collaborations across the campus and around the globe, invigorate efforts to support faculty and student entrepreneurship, usher in exciting new opportunities with industry partners, and enable us to continue to be a national pacesetter in diversity.

A key element of the campaign is a public-private partnership to assemble $110 million in funding for construction of a new 130,000 square-foot building on the UW campus. This second, state-of-the-art facility will complement the Paul G. Allen Center for Computer Science & Engineering and accommodate UW CSE's recent and future growth. The Allen Center was a game-changer when it came online in 2003. Twelve years later, we have a new opportunity to catapult UW CSE forward.

At CSE's 2015 graduation ceremony on Friday June 12, Microsoft Executive Vice President and General Counsel Brad Smith, joined by Corporate Vice Presidents for Research Peter Lee and Jeannette Wing, Puget Sound Director of Citizenship and Public Affairs Jane Broom Davidson, and Senior Director of State Government Affairs DeLee Shoemaker, announced a landmark $10 million contribution by Microsoft to this campaign.

Please join in supporting our efforts to create the CSE2 facility by making a tax-deductible donation. You can:

  • Make a gift by transferring appreciated securities
This is doubly tax-advantaged: in addition to the gift being fully tax-deductible, the donor does not pay capital gains tax. Information on how to effect a transfer is here. In your letter, specify that the gift is for "CSEBLG - CSE Building Phase II."
  • Make an online gift via credit card
    Simply follow the link here.
  • Send a check
Make it payable to "University of Washington Foundation," include a cover letter stating that it is a gift towards "CSEBLG - CSE Building Phase II," and mail it to Ed Lazowska at the CSE address: Computer Science & Engineering, University of Washington, Box 352350, Seattle WA 98195-2350.
